Facial Red Veins

Facial thread veins or spider veins are relatively common but can be a cause of embarrassment  and distress to sufferers. The medical term for facial veins is teleangiectasia.

Facial veins may be hereditary or acquired due to sun damage, natural ageing or a skin condition called rosacea. Although harmless, they can be disfiguring and make people be very self-conscious about their appearance.

"Thank you, Dr Boye. This treatment, which is only  fraction of the cost of laser, has given back my face and boosted my confidence". - Chris, Male.

Facial red veins can be treated by a process known as diathermy. During diathermy a mild electrical current passes through a tiny needle causing it to heat up and this seals the thread vein so they can no longer carry blood. Over a short period of time the facial vein will then disappear. The treatment lasts just 1-2 seconds and to make it comfortable anaesthetic cream may be applied to numb the skin before treatment.

Diathermy is highly effective and inexpensive when compared to other treatments and the result can be seen immediately.

Diathermy can also be used to remove spots and other blemishes from the skin. Examples of these include cherry spots (age spots), skin tags, milia and warts.

FAQs

How many treatment sessions will I need?

Small thread veins will normally respond to 1 treatment but larger ones may need 2 or 3 treatments. General redness takes longer to treat.

How long do the results last?

Thread veins which disappear after treatment will not recur. However, some new veins may appear at some point in the future making further treatment necessary. Protecting the skin from the sun by use of a good sunscreen helps to prevent new veins forming.
